Release notes
Localization, a new editing mode, and more

Today we’re proud to announce support for localization—plus another round of enhancements to our editor. Standards now offers Enterprise customers the ability to add multiple languages per project, with tools for translation and selection. These features are accompanied by a new Content mode available to all plans. Read on to learn more.

Localization & content mode

Enterprise

Add multiple languages

Leading this release is the ability to add multiple languages to your project. Each language can be translated from your primary language, and Standards will automatically serve relevant languages based on the region of each visitor to your project. We’ve also added new behavior to buttons, allowing you to design custom language selection menus. To learn more, check out our guide to localization here.

Content mode

The localization tools come alongside a completely new editing experience, available to all plans: Content mode. Like Preview, this mode hides the more complex, design-focused settings, but preserves the basic tools you need to manage and edit the content of your project. This mode is crucial for managing multiple languages, but is helpful for any project whenever you need to focus on authoring or proofreading content.

More enhancements

New video media interactions

We’ve added a new layer of design control to video media. You can now play videos on click, as well as select a new custom thumbnail that displays whenever the video is not playing.

Spellcheck

We’ve enabled browser-suggested markup to misspelled words when editing text in our editor. This is especially useful in Content mode, helping you avoid typos and keep things sharp when writing in Standards.

Publishing refinements

We took another pass on the publish & share menu, making the experience even better. We’ve simplified the settings, organized information into better groups, and added a new Appearance tab where you can update and save the social settings of your project without re-publishing.

Hidden menus

Project Menus may now be hidden on certain pages from the Page settings, accessible by selecting a page in the left sidebar. This can be useful when sharing one-off pages of your project with specific individuals or groups.

Project settings

Finally, we moved some of our project settings around to make them more organized and discoverable. These updates affect the project title, grid overlays, project backups, and more.

What’s next

Responsive support

Since the beginning, we’ve worked to build the best tool for designing and delivering brand guidelines online, period. We believe we’ve built the best option available, but we’re not finished. Just as it took Apple 14 years to release an iPad calculator, we’ve waited to build responsive design tools because we believe that when we do, they must be exceptional. Now is our chance to put that belief into action, and we couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead. Expect to see updates this year that build toward our vision for responsive design on Standards.

New elements

Another priority for us this year will be to release more unique, web-first brand design elements that save time and bring your brands to life online. Offering dynamic, interactive brand-specific elements is integral to our vision for Standards, and as we’ve focused on building a well rounded app, we’ve developed ideas for entirely new brand-specific elements that take your guidelines to the next level.

Get in touch

We recognize that localization would bring significant utility to many who are not Enterprise customers. Put simply, these are the most costly features in our app to date, and the decision to prioritize reflects that. If you or your clients have projects that require localization and are not on the Enterprise plan, feel free to reach out for a personalized quote.
